Our Cable Engineering discipline is in high demand due to our depth of experience, team size and reputation in the offshore industry advising high profile developers and contractors alike.

Cathie’s expertise in cable engineering includes, onshore, landfall design and offshore cables (including export, inter-array, interconnector and telecom cables). Your role will involve management of commissions, leading a technical team supporting project managers and acting as technical reviewer. A more experienced engineer with reputation in the industry may be offered the possibility to lead the technical discipline of Cable Engineering.

Typical deliverables will involve Cable Burial Risk Assessments, landfall assessments, post-installation analysis, desk studies, thermal analysis, cable ground models, interpretations, survey design and management, ground investigation reports for cable route corridors, engineering assessments, construction planning, tender and supervision support.

You will lead research and implementation of new and standard methods, advance the best practise of the company and mentor Junior staff. You will be leading some of the current initiatives designed to deepen our knowledge in cable engineering and will be given the opportunity to learn from Cathie’s position and experience in the market, exchange views with similarly skilled peers and be part of the senior team in charge of setting the next company challenges.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a civil engineer or geotechnical engineer (or another representative degree with an understanding in geology), chartered and experienced in cable engineering/installation in the offshore industry to join our team in Newcastle, remotely from the UK or from a European base. The successful applicant will work alongside existing senior offshore engineering staff and junior colleagues to deliver consultancy services for offshore energy projects.

The desired applicant will have at least 10 to 15 year’s experience in the offshore industry (some less experienced candidates may be considered depending on their experience and potential) and have extensive experience managing teams, delivering geoscience commissions and cable engineering projects for the offshore industry. You will have a passion for sharing knowledge and advance your own technical knowledge and Cathie’s best practises.

Offshore supervision or contractor’s experience in the renewable energy or oil and gas markets, related to offshore foundations, cable landings or cable construction projects is also sought-after.

The successful candidate will:

  • Successfully manage, direct or review geoscience, cable design and construction support commissions.
  • Lead geoscience teams and work with other disciplines based in various locations. delivering long term offshore geoscience commissions.
  • Participate in advancing Cathie’s state of the art database and reporting capabilities, integrating programming skills and database reporting capabilities.
  • Build a significant track record in delivering quality products, outputs and work practices.
  • Learn, develop and share new technical knowledge (technical publications, presentations, conference participations).
  • Mentor junior staff, initiate and contribute to research and development initiatives.
  • Show effective management of your team’s work, in terms of efficiency, quality and timescales.
  • Hold excellent communication skills, initiative and an excellent teamwork mentality.
  • Demonstrate openness, respect for their colleagues and managers, excellent work attitude and strong work ethic.

Mandatory requirements:

  • Offshore cable construction experience, ground modelling experience or geoscience team lead experience.
  • Track record in reviewing or directing complex reports and geoscience commissions.
  • Team player, mentor and public speaker record.
  • In depth awareness of key industry software
  • Attention to detail, clear communicator.
  • Ability to solve complex problems with innovative solutions.
  • Ability to manage own workload and prioritise tasks.
  • Ability to protect staff from excessive pressure and negotiate with clients on complex situations.
