We are delighted to announce that we’ve appointed Sonja Ternier as Managing Director. Joining the business in 2024 as European Operations Manager, Sonja has played a key role in strengthening our operational performance and supporting the delivery of Cathie’s strategic objectives across international markets.

Cathie is proud to announce that two members of our engineering team will be presenting papers at the International Conference on Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ICSMGE) in Vienna next week.

Cathie will be at this year’s European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE) Annual Conference and Exhibition in Aberdeen, with team members contributing to the technical programme through both presentation and session leadership roles.

The Canary Islands represent a compelling frontier for offshore wind development, combining excellent wind resources with some of the most complex geological settings encountered in Europe.

A recent study completed by Cathie highlights how volcanic origins, steep seabed slopes, shallow rock and variable ground conditions fundamentally shape how offshore infrastructure must be planned and designed in this region.

Developed in collaboration with the Arrow Innovation Programme and Durham University's Department of Engineering, the study examines how wind turbines can be successfully deployed in water depths and seabed conditions that go beyond those typically encountered in UK projects to date.

Cathie and SAND offer an advanced ground modelling service capability, integrating geophysics, structural geological mapping, and geotechnical interpretation to quantify in situ ground conditions.

As Canada and Nova Scotia enter an era of offshore wind development, Cathie is combing its global geoscience expertise with a key in-country partnership, to help shape the country’s marine renewable energy future.
