Robin Comrie, Co-Managing Director

Robin has been a Company Director for over 18 years, leading strategic development and operational management of a number of small to medium sized companies (SMEs). He is the Co-Managing Director of Cathie overseeing UK and US operations.

Robin is a Chartered Geologist with an MSc in Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering from Newcastle University. He has over 25 years’ experience in engineering consultancy, 18 of which are in the offshore sector. Although he has a broad range of knowledge across several different industries, Robin has particular experience in offshore renewable energy developments and was one of the early pioneers in the use of cable burial risk assessments.

François Renardy, Co-Managing Director

François is a qualified Geological Engineer having graduated from the University of Liège and since specializing in ground investigation, geophysical investigation and civil engineering. François’ experience covers a broad range of marine and inland waterway engineering from port extension and coastal engineering projects to marine site investigation and offshore wind projects.

With over 20 years of experience in major international projects in Europe and overseas and having attended a Management Acceleration Programme at INSEAD Fontainebleau , François has been working in operational and general management roles for the last 10 years. As the Co-Managing Director, François oversees our European operations.

Gareth Ellery, Business Development Director

A self-confessed geology and geotechnical geek with a passion for the offshore energy industry and clients’ problems. Gareth is a Chartered Geologist and has been working cross-sector in the offshore industry for 15 years having gained BEng Industrial Geology and MSc Geotechnical Engineering degrees at Camborne School and Mines and University of Newcastle upon Tyne respectively.

As the Business Development Director, Gareth is responsible for client relationships, strategic development of the business, commercial matters, proposals and managing a BD team but retains a technical role in select projects.

Emilio Nicolini, France and Italy Engineering Manager

With a PhD in Geotechnical Engineering from the Technical University of Milan (Politecnico di Milano) in 1998, Emilio has considerable experience in geotechnics and foundations ranging from the onshore construction industry to the offshore oil & gas and renewable wind, and an advanced understanding of numerical modelling. Emilio is the Engineering Manager of our French and Italian operations and leads G-Octopus, a Cathie company, specialized in the organization, design and execution of static and dynamic pile testing, offshore and onshore.

Victor Terente, UK Engineering Manager

Victor is a Chartered Geologist and Chartered Engineer with over 25 years’ experience in a broad range of geological and geotechnical subjects including regeneration, mining, nuclear power, infrastructure, oil and gas and renewable energy projects (onshore and offshore). In the offshore sector, Victor has completed a number of high profile foundation design projects, has led multi-year and multi-vessel survey campaigns and has worked extensively in CBRA and burial assessment for subsea cables. Having specialized in engineering geology and geotechnics from the University of Newcastle, Victor leads the engineering teams in the UK.

Sean McDonald, Vice President USA

With over 18 years’ experience in marine geotechnics and terrestrial geotechnical engineering, and over 20 years in ground, sea and airborne geophysical surveys and engineering geophysics, Sean leads Cathie operations in the United States. In the offshore sector, Sean has been active globally in oil and gas including harsh environments, geohazard terrains and in deep water projects. Sean has also led some of the earliest phases of work in the emergent US offshore wind industry.

Sean is a Registered Professional Engineer in Texas, Nevada and Alberta, Canada and specialises in geophysics and geological engineering from the University of New Brunswick in Canada.

Christophe Jaeck, Belgium Engineering Manager

Christophe is one of the original co-founders of our firm with over 20 years of experience in offshore geotechnical engineering following an MSc in Civil and Hydraulic Engineering at Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Hydraulique et de Mécanique, University of Grenoble. Christophe is one of our leading technical experts with particular strength in offshore foundation engineering and installation analysis, seismic design and soil-structure interaction and pipeline engineering.

Christophe is also committed to research and technical development and is widely published. Christophe is a member of industry development workgroups, such as ISO WG10 Committee (Geotechnical Experts) and as the leader of the workgroup for monopile design in France.

Laureen Pérot, Finance and Administration Manager

Laureen brings over 15 years of corporate accounting and financial experience to Cathie and currently works as the Finance and Administration Manager of the Cathie Group.

She started her career at the “Big 4” KPMG and then worked at PwC as an external auditor for 7 years, where she acquired an advanced understanding of internal controls and processes. She doesn’t settle for auditing anymore but works on simplifying and streamlining the company financial processes with new frameworks and tools.
